Hi Rolf - 

I think this is quite impossible to answer if we know nothing about your
personal preferences.
I have both the (non-AF)  A50/1.7 and the FA50/1.4 - pls. check Boz'
site about the design of the A/F 50/1.7.
Haven't checked, but I think they've got the same design optically.

I could send you some sample-scans, but my impression is the following:

Wide open the A50/1.7 is sharper than the FA50/1.4
Stopped down to f/5.6 the FA1.4 seems a little better for me - over all
sharpness and the edges.
IMHO both lenses are better in both aspects than the SMC-M 50/1.4

Who can comment on this?

But if you're using it for portraiture, perhaps you like it a little
soft wide open?
