i went on vacation to the Canadian Rockies last week, partly for family reasons and partly to shoot. a couple of random observations on the trip.
1) stopped at Vistek in Calgary to pick up some accessories on the off chance they had them for my Pentax cameras. Vistek is one of the largest retailers in Calgary. their digital camera display is as large as their entire film camera display. they have NO Pentax 35mm equipment on display. no lenses, no bodies. they had one 645 body. 2) stopped at Robinson Cameras to check out what they had. they had about five 35mm bodies displayed, all low end, and about 20 digital P&S shoot cameras displayed. when i asked about Pentax accessories, they said that all film camera accessories were special order and that they were selling ten times as many digital cameras as film ones. allowing for some exaggeration, i can easily believe 3 to 1. 3) TSA and the security at Toronto were very polite and willing to search hand inspect my film and single use camera i brought with me. Calgary said hand inspecting film is fine but all cameras go through X-rays, including single use one. it has ISO 800 film in it. still get stupid people making or misinterpreting the rules. the single use cameras are all going to have higher speed film and lots of them are not going to make it unscathed. mine went through X-rays only once and i hope it's OK.
