I tried my M50/1.7 on the a prototype at GFM. The lens will stop down normally. Normal operation is not to allow the shutter to fire, the custom function over rides that idiot-proof feature. The camera can not meter in that mode because it has no idea what aperture is set on the lens, but everything else works.
