Yeah but Tom, ending up on an inkjet, a 12X18 print doesn't care if it was shot with 15 megs, 150 megs or 15 million megs. It can only be displayed to the ability of the resolving power of the blobs of ink on the print, right? *That's* the thing that will sell 6MP DSLRs - *that's* the thing that has sold Mark - and *that's* what sold me on it a year ago. Printed as nice big blowups to that size, that's all we need, and in that case, it equals the (perceived) quality of film.
