I am very happy with my Optio S so far.  I traded the Altoids tin I used for
the fist month for the Pentax case, which hangs unobtrusively on my belt and
carries an extra battery and extra memory card as well.

I agree with most of what you have said. I have had no trouble with auto focus
on subjects relatively near to the camera, but shots in the far distance
sometimes look a bit soft.
