I haven't been able to determine if the pentax close-up lenses are single

Thanks.

IIRC, a few of the Pentax CU lenses for the 67 are 2-element lenses but none of the 35mm ones are (I have one and it's crap). Nikon makes great 2-element CU lenses and they are dirt cheap even when you figure in the cost of a step-up/step-down ring.

Greg Erker has a page on 2-element CU lenses- google his name and you'll find his site.

You'll notice on the Greg Erker page that the Minolta close-up lenses in 49mm sizes are the most convenient for most Pentax lenses (or the older 52mm ones for the K series lenses). Both are not as common as the 55mm version on eBay. When you do find them, they sell for 15$ each or less. The 55mm no. 00 lens could also be used on some Pentax 58mm thread tele with a step-down ring. There won't be any vignetting as you need to stop down your lens a bit with a close-up lens (even an achromtic one).

Of much interest is also the Olympus A-life in 49mm size. A triplet that gets you to only 13cm of your subject. Hard to find and expensive though.
