I scan on a Nikon LS 2000 at 2720 dpi. A couple of times I cropped 
sections of negatives only about 6 x 9 mm. in size, saved them in GF, 
and gotten pretty good 8 x 10" prints on my Epson 870. The prints are 
not great, but they are good at proper viewing distance, and much better 
than I would have thought possible.
