I'm afraid that I have to agree that the 300D will be a huge success. It's probably "good enough" to get folks to spend the money. I'm sure Pentax will come out with a comparable camera, but I'm not sure when. OTOH, Nikon isn't keeping up with Canon either.
I respect many folks on this list because of their passion for high quality images, but the simple truth is that 99% of the market and even much of the SLR market has far lower standards for what is acceptable. Everyone I know is very pleased with the images from my E-10 or Optio S. The 300D will be at least this good. And, at least in the US, the $1000 price line is a critical one. Just look at how PC sales changed when they dipped below $1000. In addition, I know many folks who have spent this much on video equipment. >From my POV, I'm glad Pentax came out with a quality DSLR first instead of a 300D analog. I also hope they can do enough business to keep them interested in SLR cameras. From a money perspective, its the P&S's that count.
