You are right - they should act with *istD like with other products - show them just before arriving to shops... But I gues they wanted to show, that DSLR will materialize at all, for these who waited very long and hesitated to switch brands...
The tension was too high, they had no choice but to show something, especially when people have been expecting one for years... and still waiting... to those who live outside Japan.
Let's hope it won't be that bad ;-) In Polish internet shop you have to wait
just one week for *istD availability - friend of my friend's has just
ordered it and it was so said to him :-)
