A separate manual exists for the back. When I bought my ZX-5n (new) I emailed Pentax with the same question -- why no information on the back? -- and they sent me the manual by snail mail. I just checked the downloads section of the Pentax site http://www.pentax.com/docstore/index.cfm?show=6 and they don't have the manual for that *specific* back, but I think if you open up the one for the Data Back FD or FE you should get an idea of how to operate the FG. Looks like the buttons are in the same place. The battery isn't, but the buttons are.
