He had a tripod ... unfortunately for him, I had the *good* tripod! 
(By the way, the something -- now that I look at it -- is the wall of the 
observation platform he was standing on.) In light of your comment, I think 
I'll suggest to him that we look at possibly cropping that shot some; it's a 
full-frame scan as it is.

In the course of adjusting saturation and contrast, I still wanted it to look 
like a night scene.
