Hi Thomas, I haven't noticed the multisegment reading to adjust with the focus distance. As for the flash, perhaps the P-TTL mode may consider the distance but it's not likely for the older plain TTL flash mode. For instance, the displayed range by the flash unit does not change with the distance.
As far as I know, the distance info is only used by cameras bundled with smart modes in order to correctly select the landscape, portrait or macro mode.
