I think I may have gotten through to the people at Lycos WRT
image harvesting. Check closely the address of my email, sent on
March 4th. The reply I got today is quoted below. If anyone else
has thumbnails sitting on Lycos still, I would be happy to
forward URLs to these people. While the URLs he has quoted mean
nothing to me, they are not my work, my images are no longer on
the Lycos server in thumbnail form.
FWIW, the gallery is now behind a robots.txt file which, in
theory, will tell image harvesters to bugger off. I suppose if
they decide to play by another set of rules then the situation
may change.
Thanks
Bill

I noticed that the Lycos website says that your
university is the copyright owner of the Lycos
name. With this in mind, I thought I would bring
to your attention that Lycos, and there for your
university are in violation of international
copyright laws. It seems to me that a university
of all places would repect intellectual
property.
The Lycos Multimedia pictures website has
harvested several images from the internet
gallery that I maintain, converted them to
thumbnail images is storing them on another
server, and using them within the Lycos website.
They are doing this without permission of the
legal owners of the images.
I would respectfully ask that Lycos stop this
theft of intellectual property, and in future,
stay within the laws governing international
copyright, as signed by your country under the
GATT convention.
As the copyright owner of Lycos Multimedia,
your university is liable for damages in the
event of litigation over this matter.
I thank you in advance for pulling illegally
used images from the Lycos website.
