Kind of a weird ramble here but what the heck.
I would be the first to agree that large format is better than medium format
is better than 35mm is better than APS is better than 110. But I would also
like to say that getting great photos (and that's what it is all about) is more
than the size of your film, more than the size of your lens... Getting great
shots is about, among other things, the love you have for the subject and your
equipment. If you love to use a particular camera and a lens ( no matter if
it's nikon, pentax large format, medium format) chances are you will achieve
success. If you dislike a camera, format etc there's a good chance you will
struggle with your photography. I believe it's one of the reasons people on this
list say a particular lens (often a fast expensive optic (85 f1,4, 80-200 f2.8)
is fantastic. They are reacting as much to the joy and ease of use of using
these lenses than to the actual results. It's much the same reason for the
cultish love affair with the LX. The LX is a great camera but it's the joy of using
it that makes it a spectacular camera.
And so, after saying all this, I predict the istD will quickly become a great
camera on this list because we will love to use it. It's fun, it provides
instant results, i's nicely finished, it's easy to use.
Large format on the other hand, is big, clunky, expensive. It's a perfect
format for some, but not many.
Just my 2 cents
