I'll pitch in...

Many years ago in primary school we were all asked to tell the class what
our father's did.
My father worked for a publishing company, and I didn't know how to describe
what he did, so I said he was a "Bookie". I had no idea what the word meant.
He received a call from the headmaster that evening.

I had a similar experience - I called a girl in my 6th grade class a "fairy"
because
heard others call her that. I thought it just meant she was a jerk. So I
told my
father at dinner that I didn't want to go to her party or haver her over or
something
becuase she was a fairy. He was very upset and said I shouldn't call anyone
that
but wouldn't tell me why. This was in about 1947. Just one of many things

kids of our generation were not told.
