I can see one, maybe two generations of improvement in film technology, but
no more. Count on a whole bunch of consumer emulsions disappearing, and
probably a bunch of pro emulsions as well in the not to distant future,
within a few years or so.
I don't see film going away for a while, just for a lot of the choices we
now have.

I have been a long time Ilford film user, and will continue to be. If you
are happy with what you are using now, keep using it until you can't get it
any more, then try something else.
