Would be interesting, but I'm not going spend several
hundred dollars to find out.  This is a killer $100
lens.  I think what they did in the early days was
try to match primes in quality. If that meant slow,
big, and heavy so be it...

I forgot to mention, 28-85 is my favorite "normal"
zoom. Good 3:1 range, yet they are not trying to do
too much with it. Great overall compromise IMHO....

Shots look very sharp. It would be interesting to do comparison shots
against the recent 28-70 f2.6-2.8 or the current 28-80 f2.8, both of
which are quite sharp.
