REPLY There are lots of potholes in NYC. They are engineered into to roads to give them character. In early spring you might see people fishing in some of the deeper ones. However, per car, there are fewer SUV's in NYC than elsewher in the US. Something about they're being much more difficult to find parking spaces for. Of the thousands of miles of roadway in NYC, a miniscule portion is part of the interstate system (sort of the equivalent of the amount of Motorway to be found in London. The Interstates in the northern part of the US are heavily hurt by the results of cold weather and snow. In fact there are only two seasons on that part of the Interstate: winter and construction. You get to see the roads in disrepair and in repair. Would you believe it was still worse during the heyday of studded tires? Larry
