There are lots of potholes in NYC. They are engineered into to roads to give
them character. In early spring you might see people fishing in some of the
deeper ones.

However, per car, there are fewer SUV's in NYC than elsewher in the US.
Something about they're being much more difficult to find parking spaces
for.

Of the thousands of miles of roadway in NYC, a miniscule portion is part of
the interstate system (sort of the equivalent of the amount of Motorway to
be found in London. The Interstates in the northern part of the US are
heavily hurt by the results of cold weather and snow. In fact there are only
two seasons on that part of the Interstate: winter and construction. You get
to see the roads in disrepair and in repair. Would you believe it was still
worse during the heyday of studded tires?
