There are also Spanish Missions in San Diego (Mission San Diego de Alcala and San Luis Rey de Francia). Then there's gaslamp quarter (http://gothere.com/sandiego/gaslamp.htm) in the heart of San Diego or as Ann suggested the Hotel Del Coronado. The beach in front of the hotel is perfect for working on that tan as it's been hitting 80+ temps out here right now (100 yesterday) and if you get lucky you'll catch a U.S. Navy ship heading out to sea or just arriving.
