It seems that the hood would make a very good investment piece because the existence of the hood must mean that somewhere in the world there is at least a prototype of the lens. If the lens should fall into the hands of a serious collector, she/he might leap at the chance to get the hood for it, giving you a nice profit. I would buy the hood and put it for sale on eBay, with a reserve set to make it worth my while.
You might have to do that a few times before you found the owner of the lens but it would be fun to try.
