It was a bit (obviously a little bit) of a joke. Remember I'm from Massachusetts where the civil war has been over for 130+ years. I've always been amazed by the strange stories about SJ, like the "arm" thing cited here. Of course, my favorite of all of these landmarks is Traveler's grave, which is right next to Lee Chapel.

I'm a native Virginian, but it's been more than 30 years since I lived there. But I'd never noticed anyone get touchy when it was mentioned. As an amateur US Civil War military historian, I find it quite an interesting bit of trivia. Especially since they even put a "headstone" on the spot. I have a photo of it somewhere from the trip I made with a friend to visit all four of the battlefields in the Fredericksburg area (two at Fredericksburg plus The Wilderness and Spottsylvania C.H.).
