I've always given the buyer the option of shipping it or picking it up in
person. I sold a VHS tape via eBay to a
guy 15 miles away. I suggested he save the shipping ($3.50 on a $10.00
transaction is significant) and offered to
let him pick up himself. He thought that was splendid but, things came up
so he had me ship it anyway.
I usually give the buyers the shipping option as well. I just sold a 10
year old 25 watt stereo receiver but didn't
have the original box. I got a quote from Mail Boxes Etc for packing and
shipping but the buyer said
(emphatically), "No." Wants me to pack it with crumpled newspaper and a
box and take it to the UPS counter. I
said, "Fine."
I've never padded the shipping costs either or turned the Priority boxes
inside out.
Cheers,
Steve S.

My biggest gripe was that I could have had it on Friday if I had picked it up
instead of waiting for the mail... Could have checked it out over the
weekend.
BTW, Buy It Now worked just fine here as there was no reserve and PayPal
worked fine as well. I think if someone wants to use a "Buy It Now" they
should check the newest listing instead of the ones getting ready to end. I
know, I lost a motor drive for my Chinon like that.
