On the surface good news indeed, but surely this must mean a totally new optical design - so no guarantees that it is as good as the old model.
I already own the old one, so it makes no odds to me, but the 77 matches my 28-70 EX (which I don't use much anymore) and the 82 matches my 100-300 F4 (which I do when I can).
