The owner's manual says to use two 1.5 v alkaline (A76) or silver oxide (EPX76) mini-batteries. I can find no prohibition against the use of lithium batteries. However silver oxide batteries last so long, and are so plentiful, I see no reason to go to lithium. . . My LX came with Varta V76PX batteries and they are still working fine, so I haven't changed them yet!
