We got about 10 inches of snow in Germantown over the past couple of days so I decided to see what kind of pictures I could get.
It was cold and overcast and I felt very little inspiration as I trudged around the lake I live on. But, as I rounded the last bend in the path on my way home, the clouds parted and the sunset was spectacular. I set up to photograph the sunset when all of a sudden the geese started to land on the water in front of me. I must have shot 70 or so images, hand-held, of the birds flying through the sunset. Here's one: http://www.xian.us/images/geese_imgp0754.jpg details: ist-D, Sigma 300/4 with 2x TC, 1600 ISO (for speed, too bad about the noise), 1/400 f5.6, -0.7 exposure compensation.
