Great writeup Ken. Thanks! It reconfirms what I personally have perceived,
and that's the PZ-1p AF works great (for me) 95+ percent of the time. I
rarely have a problem. When I compared it in the store to an N90 and
pointed it at random objects at differing distances, they both focused
achieved focus every time with no perceptible difference in speed.
I, like you, am a "focus-lock" guy and my normal style of shooting is to
focus and then recompose while holding the shutter release half-way.
The only AF lens that I've used that I don't like the AF performance on is
the AF 80-320 4.5/5.6.
This also reconfirms that the proof is in the actual field results and not
in esoteric technical specs. It also makes me wonder if the more
complicated an AF system becomes, the greater the probability of not
achieving focus. With more variables, the greater the potential chance for
error. Probably not true across the board, but I can see the potential.
