Hi Bucky

Alot are like new condition these pro calibre lenses from Pentax because most people who buy these FA* lenses aren`t pros and so they tend to baby it more compared to the Canon and Nikon equivalent lenses which are more used by pros out in the fields.

Did you get it yet? Mine is beautiful, though rather naked without the
hood. If they'd told me it was new, I'd have had no reason to argue.

Haven't done any shooting of consequence with it, but MAN is it heavy -
heavier, I think, even than the Tokina ATX Pro it's replacing. And that's
without that stout hood.

Yes these zoom lenses(Fa* 28-70 f2.8 or Fa* 80-200 f2.8) are in my opinion uneccessarily heavy because of the built in power zoom function. The novelty has long worn off for me and it eats battery too and makes the lens electronics more complex. However both lenses are superb especially the metal build quality of the Fa* 80-200 f2.8 and of course the optics for both.

No I just have to consider whether to keep the 24-90. It's a rather
pleasant alternative to the 28-70 when walking around, with a more suitable
range for the *istD. Too slow at the long end though.
Perhaps I'll ditch it when Pentax bring out a good zoom that can attain a
usefully wide angle with the digital

Sounds like a good idea. If both lenses were of the same price range though they are obviously not. The Fa* 28-70 f2.8 beats it for less barrel distortion and more resolving power overall especially at the edges of the image either set at their widest point or at the 28mm setting for the cheaper zoom.

I`m glad that it worked out in the end. B&H made the right move a 9.5 rating should mean especially at a 9.5 price you paid a hood.
