She started about when you did.  One time she was out visiting us, I
handed her my camera and FA *85/1.4 portrait lens and gave her two of
my kids.  She went out in the backyard and shot a couple of rolls.  We
got them processed and WOW!  She has both a way of seeing and also
interacting with the subjects to get great photos.  I called her Dad
and told him to push her in that direction.  Now she is way better
than me (probably always was) and doing a good business.

She has done what Tom and others are suggesting.  She raised her
prices quite rapidly and jumped into a higher clientele that pay.  It
works better for her.

I suspect if you wrote to her, mentioned me, that she might give you
some ideas and relate some of her experiences.  Certainly worth a try.
