"Maya and Alex" by Wendy Beard:
It's obvious from this photo that you spend a lot of your time photographing dogs. Two things jumped out at me when I first looked at this. First, there's that ~wonderful~ pose by those two dogs. Second, that intangible "something"; not sharpness (although it is sharp), not three-dimensionality (although it has that), just a "zing" to it that not many photos have. Then I saw you used a 6x7. That explains it, then. It's just a notch above 35mm. Again, that pose is priceless. Great shot, Wendy!
"Mirta" by Michele Dittamo:
I love this portrait. It's the look in his (her?) eyes. So world-weary, so "seen it all before". Good job of getting the focus right on the plane of the eyes. The muted colours of both the fore- and backgrounds work perfectly with the dog's colouration. Do it up poster size, and sell a million of them. If that one of the kitten hanging on the rope (caption: "Hang in There") can sell, this one will too! Thanks for sharing it with us.
"Zoe the miniature...etc" by Cameron Hood:
Another keeper. Again, it's the look on her face. As if she's "caught in the act" or something. "Digging? Who me? No, I wasn't digging. Really." Looks like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar. You've shown off the dog's muscular body well. Like the dry grass in the foreground. Gives depth without distracting (since you can't use the background for that). Great sharpness, obviously from MLU and 'pod. Well done, Cameron.
"Princess" by Dan Matyola:
I guess Bill Sawyer isn't the only one with a great snow shot this month. Everything comes together in this one. I really like the falling snow - adds great atmosphere. Nothing bad, everything good. Tremendous photo, Dan. Beautiful dog, too.
"Snoop Dog" by Bill Owens:
He should be on the front stoop. <vbg> Other than that, it's amazing how much character can be depicted by an animal sleeping, eh? I'm running out of superlatives, and I don't think I have to keep saying, "nice sharpness, great focus, good composition, nice bokeh, etc," shot after shot. But this one has 'em. I don't know why, but somehow this could only be shot in the South. Nice one, Bill.
"An Exercise in Desparation" by Bill Robb:
Can I add any more to your comment? I don't think so. Well, the photo was strongly on theme, so you get bonus points for that. What's that guy doing on the floor in the background?
More tomorrow...
cheers, frank
