I've been doing this for years now. I've never seen my monitor change
when I changed printer profiles. The printer profiling software and
hardware (Printfix) has me make a print of a standard image that is
provided with the Printfix. After that, I run the printed image through
the Printfix, which scans the image, compares it with the original, and
then outputs a printer profile appropriate for that paper used.

If anyone else has had different experience, or can confirm my
experience, feel free to chime in.

The lab probably has software that will display a demo of what different
papers might look like if the printer profile isn't changed, but I'm
sure that they too have a printer profile for every paper that they use.
