The ist-D is the same in regard to flash - set the aperture and shutter speed manually and the TTL flash will take care of itself. It did this with K and M lenses before the firmware update.

I've shot a bunch of macros using this technique and a generic (well - Spiratone) bellows set, no contacts, no aperutre linkage, just set the shutter speed on the body, stop down, and shoot. Works great.
