Hi, Rebekah, I'm pretty sure the lens was at about 5.6 or 6.3, in that range. The depth of field is partially from the digi cam and partly from the smaller f-stop. When shooting from the hip, with little or no chance to focus, smaller f-stops come in pretty handy. Of course, having the newspaper boxes in focus adds somewhat, I think, to the overall story of the photo.
However, when the photo is blown up one can observe that the detail in the background ... the tree, the bricks on the building ... are a bit soft, as they should be with the focus being relatively close.
