Okay, but what does the fact that silver negatives that last hundreds of years have to do with a nitrate based film not being made anymore? It's the nitrate that decomposes and becomes dangerous over time, not the silver. It's the nitrate content that made the film industry abandon it for use in movie film, and I'd guess later in home consumption films.
