Hi,

I've responded to a few posts together here.....

Yes, I think that the ZX-M works well for this.
Although, looking at them side by side, I think that
the Super Program is actually a bit smaller...but it
does weigh more, no doubts there. I think part of the
turn-off for a young photographer would be the kind of
fiddley way of setting manual or shutter priority,
with the ZX-M it seems so much more straight forward.

Also, though the all plastic construction of the ZX-M
may cause concern for durability, I can attest that it
is one tough little camera. Mine has been dropped on
cement, rained on, snowed on, dragged over boulders by
an enthusiastic 4 year old, accidently kicked down the
driveway (by same 4 year old, I live on a hill), I've
fallen on it walking down same driveway in the snow,
and my two year old was "twirling" and swung it into
the wall by the strap. I have a dented UV filter and
a few small marks on the top cover to show for it.
Operation is perfect. (this was my "beater" camera
that would get used in perilous conditions...like
being loaned out to demanding pre-schoolers).
So I think that it will take a reasonable amount of
abuse.

Yes, I agree here, but I happened to have an AF160sa
flash sitting around that I picked up from KEH for
$12.00 with some other things that's pretty small and
doesn't suck down on the expensive lithiums. She
loses TTL, but it seems to have an accurate meter for
most normal situations. Of course, she needs to
remember to leave the aperture on "A". She enjoys
clicking it into the hot shoe, and it is a pretty
small (2 AA) unit.

My daughter has zero interest in a P&S camera, this is
the same one that turned down a trip to the zoo with
her siblings to attend the photo garage sale with me.
She does pretty well at times too, some time ago a
local scout troop used one of her pictures as a
backdrop for 50 mile bike ride achievement award.

Thanks for the replies,

William in Utah.
