I've seen fully functional CD-RW drives that can't read CD-RW media written by a different drive.
It wasn't even consistent with different discs of the same brand. The discs were cheapies though, maybe that had something to do with it.
Getting even further off topic, what I'm waiting for now is for those tiny new 4Gb hard drives (the new mini Ipod ones) to find their way into PDAs. I wish my Palm had one; its surprising how quickly 16Mb disappears.
