I just acquired a new Manfretto 055PRO which has added a fourth notch in the
legs (the old model had only 3 stops) that allow it to be opened flat to the
ground. Also the center column can be installed laterally so that you can use
it like a copy stand and there are now quick release clasps for the legs Vs the
old screw lock. I added a Kirk B1 ball head and am very pleased with this
combo. A bit heavy for backpacking but I don't have to stoop or raise the
center column to view at my height; I'm 6'2". The tripod alone was a bit over
$220 cdn.

The Slik 700DX and Manfretto are similar models but I don't believe the Slick
can be lowered to be flat. Hope this helps....

Cheers. Mike.
