    Ryan's definitely got it right. Those are Japanese Kanji characters
taken 
from traditional Chinese alphabet. But they are simplified in the Japanese 
way so that I don't recognize them any more. At first look, it makes me 
think it refers to an inert gas. I hoped it would be Xenon -- I just got
a Rollei SL-Xenon lens made by Schneider, to make it relevant to
photography. 
But, it would have been Argon, and it is not, anyway. OK, Angulon will be
close then and I am looking for a Rollei SL-Angulon:-)
