I actually think that modern dare I say consumer grade DSLRs put in optical viewfinder more or less as an atavism of sorts. I don't think that one is really expected to use this kind of viewfinder anyway. One would normally use the LCD on the back of the camera. And unless this is indeed above five grand body, it would seem like AF would have to do.

It is rather stupid about AF. With high end camera one could still focus manually, while with supposedly simpler cheaper model one would be almost forced to rely on AF...

Anyway, just my cents...
