Hi,

if you use a 2X converter you will essentially be using a f/2.8 lens;
if you then put a filter on it you may also reduce the light
transmission by 1/2 a stop or more. This will reduce your ability to
use very shallow depth of field, it will make the viewfinder darker
and so make critical focusing slightly more difficult.

Useful filters for b&w portraits are green and yellow-green because
they produce a more natural tone on white skin and go some way to
hiding skin blemishes.
