They're jerks. I've never had anything shipped to me by them where they haven't tried to screw me. I hate them.
Whenever I have something sent to me, I always specify, "not by UPS".
Saying this, I recognize that you may have had no choice, Paul. Or that the receipient, for some reason beyond my ken, requested shipping by UPS.

I just shipped a lens to a list member in Germany. UPS wouldn't take it without
a declared value and the value had to match the amount I insured the lens for.
Germany charged customs and duty of $55 on a $120 lens. I felt bad about this,
but had no way of anticipating that it would happen.
