Hard to say where it lies really; certainly Pentax use an importer (CR Kennedy) here. But Sony (the focus of the article), being a huge multinational company, do their own importing.
I guess you could say the blame may well lie with "Sony Australia" rather than "Sony Japan", but really either way, manufacurer/importer are the same thing. Sure you expect the 10% GST, but thats the only import tax you should get.
