I have the MZ-S and my wife has the *ist. I much prefer the quality feel of the MZ-S
and the interface. The *ist makes a very disconcerting clunk as the mirror moves,
although it doesn't seem to affect camera shake so it's probably the return action.
Both cameras are really good though, the best Pentaxes I've used.
I couldn't say the MZ-S produces better pictures, but that could just be the
photographers ;o)
I'd definitely get the MZ-S in your position.

I do,too. I am so impressed with Pentax that I am thinking of getting an
MZ-S (got a *ist now) simply for:

    1. more accurate shutter speeds and therefore more accuracy in exposure
    2. more precision in the camera casing manufacture and therefore
presumably better images with the same lenses.

Do list members think it's worthwhile? BTW is it made in Japan? I'll keep
    the *ist as a backup.

    Thanks.

    Best regards
