*Ist D files respond well to "resing up" with software. The PhotoShop CS Raw Converter will allow you to adjust the size of the file when you make the RAW conversion. This seems to yield fabulous results. I've made a number of 12 x18 prints from files that I increased to 80 megabytes (12 x18 @ 360dpi) in PhotoShop 6. The prints are quite nice, at least the equivelant of what I can get from 35mm Portra 160 scanned at 3200 dpi.

Frankie asked if the *istD can give equivalent quality to film at 8x10 for landscapes and portraits.

I haven't actually done the obvious test, but I'd really think so.
I do have some *istD pictures that I shot for next month's PUG
about to get printed, so I'll have a better idea in a day or so.

I have gotten some images from the 1 1/2th generation 2.77MP
Nikon D1h made into 8x10s after working them over in photoshop, and
I'd say they are as good as what I was getting from 400 speed cheap
color print film. THe 2nd generation 6MP *istD should do better.

Of course "film" is a wide range. I'd assume for landscape and
portrait we are talking about slow color film which is a tougher
standard to match than the 400-800 speed color film I used to
use in journalism, and much better than any film at 1600-3200.

Resolutionwise, 6MP allows "photo quality" at 8x10 if you don't crop.
