Is there anything else I can do, short of putting the camera into some unwieldy acoustic chamber?

A solution is to make your own case, with some dampering material and duct tape. I began one for an LX with Evazote 5mm but it is a bit too thick and does not damper enough. "B-quiet" is a material less than 2mm thick used in speakers. I don't know if it is effective for the frequencies we want to damper.

My original idea was to "wrap" the whole camera minus the lens (to get access to both rings) and use a cable release for the shutter activation. I did not have to change the shutter speed.
