It looks like to me that it ingeniously uses the remote release as a way of
implementing the vertical shutter release. That being the case, yes it
blocks the availability. This is not usually a problem because of the 2
second prefire. The only time I use the remote release is on timed
exposures at night or sometimes when I don't want to be looking through the
viewfinder for portraits.
