It was interesting to hear from those who worked with the F-4s when they
began using them as drones.  Many felt bad that they were no longer in the
inventory.

When I first got here they were using F-106s as drones.  I do not recall
when the last one was used up...

P.S.  Worked out of Pensacola NAS over a two year period.  We were actually
docked next to the Lexington.  Long gone now...

I trained just up the coast from you at Pensacola.  Of course, that was
basic
flight school, without F-4s or any comparable aircraft.  I flew F-4s and
A-6s in
North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Arizona, Japan, Okinawa, the Philipines and
Viet
Nam.

Better use the old hulks as drones than for scrap metal, I guess.
