Hi DJE, I have installed myself a K1000 splitscreen in my SP1000 spottie. The screen is definitely much brighter (I have gotten is as a "part" from local pentax repair shop), and actually makes focusing spotties in dim light feasible. I would compare it in ease of focus to an ME Super. In my opinion, from Pentax bodies, LX has best focus, then MX, then ME Super, and the new K1000. The K1000 screen I got was from the late production cameras, and was of the laser-matte variety, with split-screen. Dimenstions are identical, you only have to remove the fresnel lens & groundglass from the old spottie, this screen functions as both fresnel lens and groundglass.
