Being there at the right time for the bird, of course. None of the skills and equipment could have gotten him the shot if the bird hadn't been there. As a news photographer I can attest to the value of "f/8 and be there" in the making of great photos. It's assumed that you will have the gear and the skill to get the shot if opportunity knocks. I've, in fact, been here. Due to a misreading of an assignment sheet I flubbed a raptor release. I've got the skill, and the equipment, but I walked up just in time to see the governor watching the bald eagle fly away. DJE
