Pentax has said so in their last quarterly report. they are no better or
worse off than Canon, Nikon or the other SLR manufacturers. film SLR sales
are plummeting for everyone and DSLR sales are skyrocketing. these companies
are forecasting 80-90% increase in 2004 DSLR sales over 2003 with film SLR
sales decreasing by about the same number of cameras. these are in the
company's own quarterly reports. Nikon is planning on making 800,000 D70's
this year. you can bet Canon is making at least as many 300Ds. that's not
even including the higher end models of each. i need to dig up the web site
again for the Japanese Association that reports total cameras manufactured
by month, but i remember the total SLRs manufacturered world wide for film
and digital in 2002 was under 5 million units. for some reason the number
3.6 million sticks in my mind. i need to find the web site again.
