I just heard that the new Nikon D-70, which, even though it is a *budget" DSLR, does cost about a thousand dollars, does NOT include the Nikon software for reading/converting RAW files. You get a trial version that's good for 30 days and after that you have to pay for the full version.
It seems that manufacturer's margins are being driven ever lower and they're trying to make up for profit lost on the camera body in other areas. I wonder if this kind of thing will spread?
